When and how did you get started in CrossFit? How long have you CF? I had never heard of CrossFit until talking with Lyndsey Conger one day on vacation in Spring 2016. At that time, I was coaching softball and could not attend a class. In the summer, Carrie Duff texted me and told me I had to come join her and Lyndsey. She stated that I would love this type of workout due to my athletic background. Since then, I have enjoyed everything about Constant Quest CrossFit; the workouts, the friendships, the community, everything! That has been a year and a half ago!!
Tell us a little about yourself. Growing up, I was all about sports. I participated in 4 sports every year. I kept busy, and loved all of the experiences with each one. Currently, I am a special education teacher. I have been teaching for 11 years. I am pursuing my Masters in Special Education, License in Exceptional Needs, and Administration License. I am glad to say that I will be completing my degree in May 2018. Other than work and classes, I workout at Constant Quest.
Favorite movement or workout? Anything with weight. I love lifting heavy things, moving barbells, swinging kettlebells, and slamming weights. The lifting in a workout drives me through the less loving movements in a workout.
Least favorite movement or workout? Anything cardio or endurance driven. #CardioIsHardio Give me heavy things to lift, I got it! Tell me to run, jump rope, do burpees, etc. I suffer in the back of the gym huffing and puffing!
What are your long term and short term goals? I love watching people smash the crap out of their goals and gain confidence! As for me, I hate setting goals for myself. For the worst reason ever; I don’t make goals so I don’t fail! At times, I set goals but keep them to myself. If I don’t achieve them…no one will know. If I achieve it…I’ll share with a few people, then move on.
If I had to set goals:
Short-term: Start making goals for myself.
Long-term: Not having to scale as many movements (which requires MANY short-term goals along the way)!
What is your proudest accomplishment? Sticking with CrossFit for over a year and not trying to find a way out or how to leave! I paid a gym membership for 3 years and went two times the first month I had it! When it comes to health/fitness/nutrition, I tend to go crazy for a month or two, then it all goes down the drain. I also participated in the Rookie Rumble. I placed 1st in 2 of the mini WODs during that competition.
What do you love most about Constant Quest? The community. The family. The friendships. The comradery. The fellowship. The spirit. The accountability. The non-judgement from others. The burn after you pushed yourself harder than you ever thought you could go. The wobble walk the next few days because you killed it during a workout. The pain you feel while on the ground after a workout and you think to yourself this is it…this is how I go! Pushing yourself to the point you give Jesus a high five during the workout! The pain, knowing you are getting better. The cheers for the first person done to the last person working out. Going back to get your butt kicked again. Telling yourself you are going to take it easy and you end up lifting more, pushing harder, and making more gains than you could imagine. Being crazy enough to want more and go back for more!
What is your favorite cheat meal or snack? Potatoes, pasta, breads, cheese-made in all different ways! A spaghetti bake meal with bread and butter, add fried potatoes, and to top it off put some cheese its in there as an appetizer or dessert!
Tell us something outside of CF that you like to do. Spending time with people. Family. Friends. I don’t meet strangers! Building things. Being creative. Giving to people (my time, needs, small gifts, random acts of kindness, an ear to listen)
What is your favorite music or band? Country is my go to everyday. However, I love to listen to 50s and 60s.
If you were an animal, what would it be and why? A lion. I am strong willed, put family and friends first. I have a strong sense of duty for my loved ones. I am a provider and protector. The lion roams leisurely until they are ready to hunt. They are strong and have bursts of strength. They like being around their pack. They lead when necessary.
