When and how did you get started in CrossFit? How long have you CF? I had initially found CrossFit kind of intimidating at first. I had been athletic as a youth but hadn’t really worked out since high school other than some running and hiking. My husband Jonathon had always tried it on and off while we dated and he liked it. There was a CrossFit box across the parking lot from another gym we were going to and we went to a free Black Friday workout to check it out and I was hooked right away. I signed up for a 4 week foundations class, became a member and never looked back haha. That was almost 3 years ago. Unfortunately that gym closed and we had a hard time finding a new gym until Constant Quest opened!
Tell us a little about yourself. I grew up on the West side of Indy, went to Ben Davis. I played basketball for a long time until high school when I really started getting into art. I went to Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI for Visual Communication. Now I work as a graphic designer. I live in Danville with my husband Jonathon and we have 3 dogs; Hermione (a cattle dog mix), Sadie (a black lab) and Zakk (a 5lb teacup Maltese). Soon we’ll add 2 kittens to the mix! Call me crazy haha. I love movies and music and all things pop culture.
Favorite movement or workout? I love Snatches and Overhead Squats. I find Snatches super awesome and challenging because there are so many things that go into it, it makes me feel good when I make that lift. My favorite workout is Nancy. 5 Rounds of 400 m run and 15 Overhead squats. It combines my favorite movement with my least favorite thing.
Least favorite movement or workout? Not a fan of running…at least anything longer than 400 m. Also not a fan of Burpees or Thrusters so Fran isn’t a favorite haha
What are your long term and short term goals? Long term goals are just being able to keep coming to the gym consistently and remaining healthy and active and be able to RX most workouts and RX an entire CrossFit Games OPEN! Short term goals are checking off various skills and being able to do various movements unassisted. I’ve been able to check off HSPUs, PullsUps, DUs and Rope climbs since being at Constant Quest which is so awesome! I want to get butterfly pull ups, chest to bar pull ups and eventually a muscle up! I wanna do all the things!
What is your proudest accomplishment? My proudest accomplishment is probably completing the Tough Mudder in Snow Mass, Colorado. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, physically and mentally. I wanted to give up a lot but I pushed through and completed every obstacle thanks to my husband and cousin who were doing it with me and helping me through.
What do you love most about Constant Quest? I love the people. Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging. Everyone is always pushing each other to do their best and everyone is always so excited when someone PRs a movement or does something they’ve never done before. It’s such a great atmosphere and it’s always so much fun to come to the gym. Even on the days it’s just me and a coach! I love that class sizes are smaller and you get more one on one time with the coaches but also one on one time with other members. Plus it’s 5 min from home!
What is your favorite cheat meal or snack? My favorite cheat meal currently is a Mac Attack Burger from Diesel’s and a Lemon Lime Freeze from the dairy bar…mmmmmm. I also love donuts and ice cream and chocolate chip cookies. I have a sweet tooth.
Tell us something outside of CF that you like to do. I love watching movies. I love to read, currently working my way through the Outlander Series. One of the hobbies I enjoy doing is crocheting which I learned from my grandma. I love spending time at home with Jonathon and my dogs. I’m definitely a home body. Although I do love being outdoors and going hiking.
What is your favorite music or band? I have too many favorites to name them all. I have a pretty eclectic taste. I love music from lots of different eras…I especially love when it’s 80’s ladies power hour at the gym haha. So fun! Some of my favorites are The Beatles, Blink-182, The Foo Fighters, The Sounds, Run DMC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The B52s, the Donnas, Lady Gaga, ….I’m all over the place.
If you were an animal, what would it be and why? I think I would be an otter! They are my spirit animal haha! They are so cute and furry and they swim! They are big on playtime! And they hold hands when they sleep to keep from floating away from each other. They like to eat! They sometimes have a favorite rock they use and store it in a pocket under their arm and use it to break open food! Such a cool animal.
